Training Classes

All training classes are conducted at Glenbrittle Kennels, in the fully enclosed, floodlit paddock. Classes are held outdoors as this makes the training much more realistic for the dogs. However, this does mean that ocassionally classes have to be cancelled due to bad weather.

The majority of classes are run as 8 week courses. All classes include the required elements of the Kennel Club Good Citizen’s Awards (of the appropriate level). Once your dog is ready, owners are encouraged to attend a Good Citizen’s Award training and test day.

PUPPY EDUCATION COURSE

This course is designed for puppies 16 weeks of age and under. The course provides puppies with both early training and socialisation, helping your new edition develop into a happy, safe and well behaved companion. Owners are also advised on how to deal with common problems including house-training, jumping up and pulling on the lead.

YOUNG DOGS COURSE

This course is designed for dogs between 5 and 20 months of age, who have had no (or very little) previous training. The course provides dogs with basic training and also deals with common problems including things like jumping up, pulling on the lead and boisterous or excitable behaviour.

IMPROVERS COURSE

These courses are designed for dogs of any age who have already received some training and wish to improve. The courses cover both improved obedience and ‘fun’ (not competition) agility. These courses are designed for groups of mixed ability with end of course assessments providing owners with realistic goals that suit their dogs level of training.

KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN AWARD – TRAINING AND TEST DAYS

This is a relaxed day providing preparation for Kennel Club Good Citizen tests. The morning provides opportunity for practice and further instruction and in the afternoon the external examiner arrives to conduct the tests.

Dog must be fully vaccinated to attend all training courses.

Important Notice

For some dogs, classes will not be suitable. Dogs showing aggressive or fearful behaviour towards other dogs or people cannot attend these classes. This is for the benefit of the dog as a class situation may actually make the problem behaviour worse. In these cases, owners are advised to consider a behaviour treatment course.
