Training Classes
All training classes are conducted at Glenbrittle Kennels, in the fully enclosed, floodlit paddock. Most classes are held outdoors as this makes the training much more realistic for the dogs. However, we also have a purpose built indoor area which is utilised in bad weather. The majority of classes are run as 6 week courses and require booking in advance (see diary page for dates and times).
PUPPY SCHOOL
This course is designed for puppies 20 weeks of age and under. The course provides puppies with both early training and socialisation helping your new edition develop into a happy, safe and well behaved companion. Owners are also advised on how to deal with common problems including jumping up and pulling on the lead. Handouts accompany each session and your puppy will receive a certificate and rosette upon completion of the course.
JUNIOR SCHOOL
This course is designed for dogs between 5 and 12 months of age, who have had no (or very little) previous training. The course provides dogs with basic training and also deals with common problems including things like jumping up, pulling on the lead and boisterous or excitable behaviour. Handouts accompany each session and your dog will receive a certificate and rosette upon completion of the course.
CAININE UNIVERSITY
This is a ‘follow on’ course designed for dogs who have completed either Puppy School or Junior School. The course focuses on developing improved responses to training commands with a particular emphasis on ‘real life’ training and building greater reliability around distractions. Handouts accompany each session and your dog will receive a certificate and rosette upon completion of the course.
KENNEL CLUB GOOD CITIZEN COURSES – BRONZE, SILVER & GOLD
Those wishing to further their dogs training can progress to the Kennel Club Good Citizen Courses:- Bronze (beginners), Silver (intermediate) and Gold (advanced). These courses are only suitable for dogs who have undergone some previous training either via one-to-one tuition or progressing from Puppy/Junior School/ Canine University.
AGILITY CLASSES
Agility classes are suitable for dogs over the age of 12 months who have already established a good level of obedience training. Ideally dogs should have achieved their Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award and be comfortable in a class situation. Agility classes are divided into beginners, intermediate and advanced groups.
WEEKEND WORKSHOPS (STARTING SPRING 2012)
Throughout the year there will be regular weekend workshops covering a variety of dog training activities and disciplines such as agility, heelwork to music, scent work, clicker training and many more.
